Honoring Excellence: September Students of the Month
The Rotary Club of Upcountry Maui continued its youth recognition series with its second Student of the Month celebration of the year, honoring two remarkable student leaders for September: Joseph Braceros of Kamehameha Schools Maui and Isabel Hartman of King Kekaulike High School. Both students visited our morning meeting in Makawao to share their inspiring achievements, future aspirations, and commitment to living out Rotary’s core value of Service Above Self.
Joseph Braceros (Kamehameha Schools Maui)
Joseph exemplifies an extraordinary work ethic both on and off campus. At Kamehameha Schools, he serves as Vice President of the JustServe Club and competes as a student-athlete on the varsity paddling team. Outside the classroom, Joseph balances an impressive 30-hour work week, which includes operating his own auto-detailing business, while still finding time to enjoy hunting and diving. Looking toward the future, Joseph aims to attend a U.S. military academy or a university with an Air Force ROTC program, with the ultimate dream of becoming a pilot—preferably flying home in Hawaiʻi with Hawaiian Airlines.
Isabel Hartman (King Kekaulike High School)
Isabel demonstrates exceptional leadership across academics, student government, and athletics. As Senior Class President and President of the Key Club, she is a driving force behind campus engagement and community service. An avid multi-sport athlete, Isabel represents King Kekaulike on the varsity basketball and varsity golf teams, and swims with both the school team and the Maui Dolphins Swim Club. Her entrepreneurial spirit took root early while working alongside her parents to help launch their family eye care business, giving her hands-on experience in business operations that continues to shape her ambition.
Our small but mighty club of 10 is proud to celebrate Joseph and Isabel as they set an inspiring standard for our Upcountry 'ohana. Congratulations to both students, their families, and their schools for cultivating such outstanding future leaders!
