About Mālama Kula: Forging a Resilient Kula
Formed specifically to provide disaster relief in response to the Kula Fire, Mālama Kula's mission extends to addressing the multifaceted challenges facing the Kula community. They foster community, provide vital service and support, and empower, educate, inform, and nurture the town and its residents.
Based directly in Kula, Mālama Kula develops and supports programs, funding, and services critical for:
- Community cleanup and disaster relief & mitigation.
- Invasive species management that directly impacts fire fuel reduction.
- Addressing challenges facing the area's rural and agricultural economy.
- Social networking and educational events that strengthen community bonds.
They actively advocate for services that protect property, life, infrastructure, and health, and manage educational programs that highlight Kula's rich cultural and ecological history. These programs also provide essential training in skills and knowledge beneficial to the community.
Mālama Kula's Critical Recovery & Mitigation Programs
The devastating Kula Fire highlighted immense community needs. Mālama Kula's current programs are strategically designed to fill these gaps, ranging from:
