At the Rotary Club of Upcountry Maui, we are invested in the future of our 'ohana. Our Students of the Month program is key to this commitment, as we celebrate remarkable young people who are already making a profound impact in our community and beyond.
Honoring Exceptional Students
Every month during the school year, we have the privilege of honoring one exceptional student from King Kekaulike High School (Na Ali'i) and one from Kamehameha Schools Maui (Warriors). These inspiring haumāna (students) are nominated by their dedicated teachers, or kumu, who recognize their:
- Outstanding character
- Dedication
- Potential
Witnessing Their Impact
Imagine this: At one of our club meetings, a proud school administrator shares heartfelt testimonials written by the students' teachers and coaches. You'll hear about their:
- Academic prowess
- Tenacity on the athletic field
- Dedication to community service
- Vibrant participation in extracurricular activities and clubs
Many of these young leaders are talented athletes, showcasing discipline and teamwork both in the classroom and in competition.

Then, the student shares their story. Their voices, often filled with humility and ambition, paint a vivid picture of their journey, passions, and dreams for college and beyond. Their honesty, resilience, and vision are truly inspiring—a powerful reminder of the bright future these young individuals represent for Maui and the world.
These meetings are often moving, as the students' families are always present, and the students frequently speak about the profound impact their families have had on them. We also take the opportunity to ask parents questions about raising their children, creating a truly communal celebration.
